Build it Up, Break it Down, Build it Up. Burn it Up, Break it Down, Build it Up

Ingrid Michaelson Song

How many times have you started a new life; One that needed rebuilding after it was burned up or you decided to break it down?

Maybe after a daring move by yourself, losing a love, or maybe after recovering from illness. The song “Build it Up” by Ingrid Michaelson reminds me of all the times I chose to step blindly into the unknown to start a new life. It also reminds me of the times my life blew up in flames of frightening uncertainty after breakups, or having to claw my way out of a pit of darkness and pain to seek health.

Starting over, new jobs, evolution of friendships, finding neighborhoods, new love, new gyms, fighting for health. Years later seeing the outcome of your endeavor. Only to find yourself repeating the process time and time again. There’s satisfaction in the re-build and drive to make life better. The choices you make could be viewed as poor by onlookers, family or friends who have better ideas for you and your life. But you did it your way. It’s the only way. Lastly, it reminds me of my mother who opened up her fist and let me go at 19. She knew that I was made to run around and write my own story. You can fly away too but that’s on you.
