Orlando Work Conference: Wear This

It’s that time of year again. Sales kick off conferences in sunny places. This type of corporate get together is called SKO. These are sales conferences usually held at resorts that entail acknowledgement of the previous years highlights and pumping everyone up for the year to come. All conference dress codes are different so I highly recommend reading up on your companies required attire. Our company flew to Orlando, the cheapest of the resort options so business casual was the requested attire, with one dinner banquet that required cocktail wear. It was established prior to attendance that our business casual allowed jeans; make sure you check on that.

SKO’s are usually set in warm climates in the months of Jan or Feb. Expect the agenda to be packed full with trainings, discussions and certifications that leave little downtime to enjoy the sunshine. Be prepared for overhead lighting and air conditioned rooms. I highly recommend choosing comfortable clothing, yet professional.

The first night at SKO could be a casual dinner. This is usually the day employees are flying in so you want to be casual but make a good first impression. This might be the initial in-person meeting of colleagues if you are a remote worker so you’ll want to dress up your jeans with a silk top, nice earrings and throw some lipstick on. Show some of your unique personal style during this event.

The first full day will be packed to the brim with meetings and maybe a work outing such as mini golf after the long day. This is the day I would like to be comfortable but appear cute enough to step out on the town, or perimeter of the resort without having to change. I actually wore close to this exact outfit below but took off the structured jacket for mini golf. The dress was so flowy and comfortable for sitting all day with appropriate slits on the sides to stay cool while outdoors playing mini golf. Bring a casual jacket if temperatures drop at night.

The second day will likely consist of a full agenda of meetings. Wear something that can transition straight to the bar afterwards. You’ll need a drink.

Awards banquet. Think business cocktail, not wedding cocktail. You do not want to overdress here. It’s an Orlando sales kick off, not the Oscars. Or better yet the Sundance Film Festival where I should have been instead. I went for a silk button down dress and it was perfect. I made sure to wear statement earrings and some unique heels.

Lastly, would be the airport outfits but that’s for another post. All of the outfits I showcased here are the same or similar to what I wore to my SKO and I felt comfortable and classy the whole time. I received many compliments on my put together style.

I hope this helps!
